Andy Warhol and Jean-Michel Basquiat

Inspired by the famous art collaboration between Warhol and graffiti artist Jean-Michel Basquiat I approached my neighbor who does whimsical chalk sketches on her driveway. She goes by the clever handle of @accidentalchalkartist on Instagram. We agreed on a collaboration wherein she would render one of my photographs in chalk on her sidewalk. The result was the startling and just too cool guacamaya in chalk you see above.

It is her interpretation of a photo (below) I took of a guacamaya flying directly at me in the gloaming of the rainforest in Copan, Honduras. The guacamaya was sacred to the people who inhabited Copan and today is honored as the national bird of that country. I believe The Accidental Chalk Artist gave the guacamaya, or scarlet macaw, some character. Especially in the eyes. This was a fun collaboration.
